According to MÁV, they are no longer needed.
S76 trains running between Pilisvörösvár and Rákos will run without ticket inspectors as a pilot from April 7. After the two-month testing and evaluation process, driverless traffic is expected to be extended to the suburban and rural lines as well, according to the announcement of MÁV-Start.
The new tariff and discount system introduced on March 1 significantly simplified ticket exchange and travel, so the constant presence of ticket examiners on trains is no longer necessary, Máv announced.
First of all, the S76 flights running between Pilisvörösvár and Rákos will be tested to see what the modernization – which is already common in Western Europe and some countries in the region – will do from the point of view of the passengers and the train drivers who perform more tasks than before.
After the departure of the train, the passengers will be informed that the given train is running without a guide, and they will draw attention to the fact that in case of an emergency, they should use the emergency calls located next to the doors.
There will still be random checks
You can still travel on the train only with a valid ticket or pass, there will still be random ticket checks - Máv warns.
During the first month of the pilot period, during the temporary grace period until May 5, the railway company will charge an additional fee of HUF 2,600 during the ticket checks for passengers who board the S76 trains without a conductor without a ticket, pass or valid travel document. in addition to the price, if it was possible to buy a ticket at the point of departure.
From May 6, however, all passengers who cannot prove the right to travel without a ticket or pass or without a fee must pay a HUF 25,000 surcharge on top of the ticket price.
Train drivers will have more to do
In the absence of a guide, the train drivers will have to provide live voice passenger information through the public address system of the motor train, and if necessary, they will have to operate the wheelchair lifting equipment for loading and unloading passengers with disabilities. The train driver must also check that the doors close properly or that the air conditioners work, for example.
In an extraordinary situation, for example in the event of an interruption caused by an accident or technical fault, the railway company can temporarily operate the affected trains with the presence of ticket examiners, the announcement states.
