By the way, the striking prime minister thinks that the resignation is "not a statesmanlike gesture", and he also has his opinion about Péter Magyar.
Ferenc Gyurcsány, the president of the Democratic Coalition (DK), expressed his thoughts on Hungarian politics and the situation of the left at the public camp of the Political Youth Party (POLIP) Association.
The fallen prime minister began his reflection with the 2022 election, saying that the DK quickly got over the electoral defeat, but the other opposition parties did not. According to him, the appearance of Péter Magyar was a response to this "instability" and "immobility". Gyurcsány explained that
the Péter Magyar phenomenon harms the opposition more than Fidesz, but at the same time, he sees that DK is less affected by it, since they used good tactics, but there are parties for which this may cause more serious "difficulties".
Of course, the president of the DK was also asked whether he should have resigned in 2006. In this regard, Gyurcsány said that it was the right move for him to stay in his place, as he thinks it is
resignation is not a "statesman's gesture".
He spoke about how, in his opinion, Fidesz currently has an interest in "taking him down", and then said that
he is the only politician who entered the "deadly crosshairs of Fidesz" and did not fall into it.
Therefore, according to him, if he were to resign now, it would "destabilize the rest of the democratic system".
He also said that he thinks the opposition only has a chance if an opposition candidate and a government candidate face each other in the upcoming elections, and this requires "negotiations and primaries".
