Inexplicably, the seller did not even notice that he had paid with fake money.
Back in 2008, a company distributing meal vouchers issued a flyer with a HUF 54,000 denomination - deceptively similar to a HUF 20,000 banknote - for its advertising campaign.
After the campaign, the fake banknotes were taken to a waste processing plant for destruction, where the employees took some of them.
Some of these have now been discovered: the Szolnok Police Department seized a total of 76 fake banknotes.
As it turned out, they tried to use the 54,000 as currency in two cases: in Szolnok, a man bought a horse for eight counterfeit banknotes, in Kétpó, a 17-year-old youth bought three sheep for two banknotes from a pensioner who did not notice the unusual denomination, and only then did he come face to face with the fraud. when it was clarified at the postal exchange: such a currency does not exist.
The fake banknote is part of the Police Museum's numismatic collection.
