Kátya Tompos, a Jászai Mari and Junior Prima prize-winning actor and singer, died at the age of 41 on Friday morning after a long illness, the family and management of Kátya Tompos announced.

"It is with deep pain that we inform you that Mari Tompos Kátya Jászai Tompos and Junior Prima prize-winning actress and singer passed away this morning, peacefully surrounded by her family, after a long illness. It meant a lot to him that upon news of his illness, the country moved as one person and expressed its support in some form, this love gave him strength and filled his last weeks with hope," they wrote.

Kátya Tompos was born on March 13, 1983 in Budapest. His mother is of Russian origin. When he was a high school student, he visited Margit Földessy's studio for a few years. Between 2001 and 2005, he studied operetta-musical at the University of Theater and Film Arts. In 2004, she won the song competition of the theater university with Edith Piaf's song Mylord. After graduating from university, he was a member of the József Attila Theater in 2005-2007, and then appeared in the Bárka Theater in 2007-2008. He was a member of the National Theater between 2008 and 2018. He gained national recognition with the main role in the audio play of the continuing fairy tale of Vacka Rádió.

His singing roles are also particularly noteworthy. He also performed with Goran Bregovic, the Budapest Klezmer Band, Róbert Hrutka, and the Söndörgő band in India. In November 2013, his first solo album was released under the title Keresztül Europan, which is a magical musical journey from England to Russia, songs sung in English, French, Bulgarian, Hungarian and Russian.

Kátya Tompos played the main role in several films, she was seen in Valami Amerika 2 (2008), Poligamy (2009), Köntörfalak (2010), Nőm, nejem, cjajom (2012), Coming out (2013), Valami Amerika 3- in (2018) or, for example, in the film Most van most (2019).

His work was recognized in 2005 with the Erzsi Máthé Award. In 2007, she won the audience award for best actress at the Bárka Theater. In 2009, he was awarded the Gundel Art Award, and in 2010, the Junior Prima Award. In 2014, he received the Jászai Mari Award. In 2019, she received the Vidor festival's best actress award for her title role in Warsaw Melody.

A collection, a charity auction, a concert, and a gala evening were also organized to finance the medical treatment of Kátya Tompos abroad.
