The sympathizers were shocked: Péter Magyar announced his Saturday demonstration as the largest political mass demonstration since the regime change, but it failed to meet expectations.
The photos and the disgruntled reaction of his supporters also show that there were fewer people even compared to the April 6 Kossuth Square demonstration.
and compared to the February demonstration organized by influenza agents, there were far fewer people.
The sympathizers are freaking out
The moderate interest could already be guessed from the feedback on Facebook, and the reactions on social media also showed that this will not be the biggest demonstration this year. A total of 49,000 people responded on Facebook to the February event organized by Márton Gulyás and his colleagues, 37,000 to the April program, and only 16,000 to the Saturday event.
Although the Telex already wrote at the beginning of the event that the Hősök tere was full, this is practically impossible, because one half of the square was closed from the beginning, and the stage was moved to the middle of the square. As you can see from the drone photo above, the space is far from full.
By the way, Péter Magyar, who heads the Tisza party, has been campaigning in the country for weeks, he has already shouted in front of a church and occupied a cafe, but the long-announced demonstration planned for Budapest's Hősök square, however, went badly wrong based on the discord comments of the participants. According to the comments, the organization was not the right one either, there was no water distribution or water gate in the heat, instead they passed the time with songs and all kinds of shows. For example, a user named Feast wrote:
I don't want to sound negative, but making people wait 70 minutes in the hot sun with singing for MP is pretty bad organization in my opinion."
The user named Tamás put it this way: "Let's face it, the time is not the best choice, 5-6 pm would have been better" . His Hungarian followers weren't satisfied with the number of people either.
One commenter wrote: "the stage is set up in the middle of the square, so it's deceptive, if you take a photo from there, you can't see that the other half of the square is empty..." adding: "we hope the propaganda won't spot it". He also wrote that "obviously, the origin of the shit is written by a sleazy person, which will be a lie... but it's also not true that Hősök tere is full, there were a lot more people at the flu sign..."
There were those who were worried about the fact that publicist András Hont went to the demonstration and showed in a live login that the square was not full, as the commentator put it, "this is such a disappointment, children"...
A commentator who was otherwise outside the demonstration also joined the conversation. According to
compared to the Kossuth Square demonstration, there were fewer people in Hősök Square,
"and somehow the atmosphere was also different, one had the feeling that we were the winning camp, and now everyone is waiting for the end..."
A user named Sansen complained about the lack of a water gate, and davidkah added that "by the time MP starts his speech, the crowd will be completely ready."
Someone said that "I understand that they are still beginners and all, but this really shouldn't have been organized like this", to which others retorted by saying
"everyone's water is cut off, there is hardly any water distribution. And the show is very long, there are many performers, which is why there are those who prefer to go home."
And the most unpleasant thing is that many people allegedly called for a doctor, several of them even got sick, some of them already counted the number of times they called a doctor.
