The election result gives the government parties the strength to protect the country's sovereignty, analysts assessed.
It is a great achievement that the Fidesz-KDNP list received 45 percent in the EU voting in the middle of the cycle - said Sámuel Ágoston Mráz at the round table discussion organized by the Nézőpont Intézet. Evaluating the elections, Miklós Szánthó said that the conduct was impeccable. Zoltán Lomnici Jr. stated that the right-wing has advanced throughout the Union, while Márton Békés emphasized that the election result gives the government parties strength to protect the country's sovereignty.
"Fidesz won the European Parliament and local government elections," said Miklós Szánthó, director general of the Center for Fundamental Rights.
According to Sámuel Ágoston Mráz, head of the Nézőpont Institute, there were no surprises in either the EP or local elections, and he also called it a great result that the Fidesz-KDNP list received 45 percent of the EU vote in the middle of the cycle.
Zoltán Lomnici Jr., scientific director of the Századvég Public Knowledge Center Foundation, called it very important in relation to the EU situation that the right-wing has made progress at the EU level.
In relation to domestic conditions, he noted that the governing parties won a decisive victory.
Márton Békés, the XXI. The director of the Szazad Institute said that Fidesz is still strong in small and medium-sized towns, but according to him, there is a shift in mood. He believed that the results in Győr and Szolnok were a failure for the right, but according to his assessment, Fidesz won a big victory in the EP and local government elections. As he indicated, there are some results that will be worth examining more closely, and today the campaign for the parliamentary election has begun.
The conduct of the elections was impeccable, which shows that the Hungarian electoral system works excellently, noted Miklós Szánthó. He pointed out that the two million votes received by the EP list of the governing parties is a domestic peak, and then explained that there is a mood to change the opposition.
- As long as the opposition is divided and its support is lower than that of the ruling party, it is favorable from the point of view of Fidesz's victory - said Sámuel Ágoston Mráz in connection with recent research by Nézőpont.
The number of votes cast for Fidesz on Sunday would be worth two-thirds in a parliamentary election
He reminded that the entire left received fewer votes in the parliamentary elections in 2022 than the Fidesz-KDNP now in the EP elections.
Zoltán Lomnici Jr. said in connection with the recount of the votes cast in the mayoral election that a longer legal procedure can be expected.
Márton Békés emphasized: the plan that the Gyurcsánys will not remove from the leadership of the left in 2022 has been realized, the shadow government has become a shadow opposition. He indicated that there is a tie between Fidesz and Tisza Party on the list in the capital, and Momentum can survive in the municipalities for a while longer. He added: the result of Fidesz is considered good in Budapest as it is now, but it must be accepted that the capital is not pro-government.
Miklós Szánthó also stated that Budapest is not a right-wing city, it never was, and he called Alexandra Szentkirályi's withdrawal a brilliant move,
since this was the only way to replace Gergely Karácsony. According to Sámuel Ágoston Mráz, an anti-Christmas majority has formed in the capital, and at the district level, the governing parties can be happy to win back the 1st district.
A huge job awaits Alexandra Szentkirályi to create Fidesz's Budapest policy and to channel the dissatisfaction with Gergelly Karácsony, underlined the head of the Nézőpont Institute, then indicated that the governing parties won the list election in the capital.
I don't see that there has been a political landslide in the capital, apart from the fact that the majority of the Gyurcsánys in the capital's general assembly disappeared, said Miklós Szánthó.
Zoltán Lomnici Jr. said about the situation in the capital that it would be easier for Dávid Vitézy to have the majority of the general assembly behind him than for Gergely Karácsony. Sámuel Ágoston Mráz believed that if Péter Magyar insists on his claim that he does not cooperate with the old left, then the capital will become inoperable.
Miklós Szánthó said, "There has been a change of opposition, because those who voted for the old left now voted for the new left-wing force, the Tisza Party." He indicated: the DK-MSZP-Párbeszéd trio collapsed, and with the fall of Momentum, the SZDSZ ceased to exist.
The election result gives Fidesz-KDNP the strength to defend the country's sovereignty
- said Márton Békés. He pointed out that for 15 years Viktor Orbán has had such a degree of historical authority that the left has never been able to present a real alternative.
They will do everything they can to influence the 2026 parliamentary election, which has been successful, added the XXI. Director of the Century Institute.
Regarding the pan-European results, Miklós Szánthó said that the right-wing bloc could be the second strongest in the European Parliament after the European People's Party. Ágoston Sámuel Mráz indicated that in Germany and France, the most pro-war countries, the parties currently in power suffered a serious failure.
