Pascal Jansen became the new head coach of Ferencváros, the champion in the NB I.

The green and whites announced the arrival of the 51-year-old manager, who previously managed the Dutch AZ Alkmaart, on Thursday.

As the FTC website indicated: Jansen was born in London, his Dutch father is a musician, and his English mother is a singer. The coach, who has dual Dutch-English citizenship, grew up in Zaandam in the Netherlands and started playing football there. During his youth career, he visited AZ Alkmaar, Ajax, Haarlem and Telstar, among others. A knee injury ended his active career before he even made his debut in the seniors.

Jansen then became a coach, from 1993 to 1998 he was the youth coach of Haarlem, then he tried his luck in Asia, for two seasons he was active in the staff of al-Jazira and al-Vahda.

He then returned to the Netherlands, where he worked at the academies of Vitesse and Sparta Rotterdam. In 2011, he continued working with Sparta Rotterdam's first team as an assistant coach. Two years later, he joined PSV, where he was first expected at the academy, managing the U19 and U21 teams for two years each.

From 2017, he led PSV's academy for a year, then joined AZ Alkmaar. Here, he immediately joined the adults, first as an assistant coach for two years, then in December 2020 he was appointed head coach, a position he held until January 2024.

Under his leadership, the team finished fourth and once fifth in the Dutch championship, in addition to a bronze medal. On the international stage, he led the red and whites in the Conference League on all three occasions, in the last season he failed to advance from the group stage, in 2022 he led the team to the eighth finals, and last year he took Alkmaart all the way to the semifinals.

"At the end of a long process, we chose Jansen, we met many coaches from the available list whose characters fit Ferencváros"

- said Pál Orosz, CEO of FTC Labdarúgó Zrt., on M1.

The sports leader emphasized that Jansen is extremely well-prepared, but a different kind of coach than those who have worked for the Hungarian champions recently, because he does not have a great playing background, he started training as a coach at a young age.

" He went through the ranks, had other offers from serious places, and since he was born in England, he has both the Dutch and English schools. Anyone who saw Alkmaart knows that they played a spectacular attacking game, " said Pál Orosz.

The general manager emphasized that all the candidates with whom they discussed came prepared, they had an idea of what Ferencváros is and what the squad is like.

"Jansen has a calm, strong personality, he will be able to handle the coaching position properly. We believe that we will achieve good results with him"

- said the sports director, who spoke about the player squad, "no major movements should be expected", because although the new head coach "has a say" in the formation of this, Jansen will basically get a ready-made squad.

Speaking about the goals, he highlighted that they have not changed: in addition to the Hungarian gold medals, they want to be in a European cup series, and not necessarily in the group stage of the Conference League.

" We hope the Champions League will be successful, if not, then the Europa League, " concluded Orosz.

Fradi will present itself in the second round of the BL qualifying on July 23-24 and 30-31, the draw will take place next Wednesday. It was announced on May 16 that the Serbian Dejan Stankovic is leaving the Hungarian champion, Hungarian Cup silver medalist Ferencváros, and will continue with the Russian Spartak Moscow.
