At the same time, the German chancellor called the Russian president's peace proposal to end the war frivolous in an interview with ZDF television.
Everyone knows that Vladimir Putin did not take this proposal seriously, but that it has something to do with the Swiss peace conference.
The G7 leaders did not even discuss it, said Olaf Scholz. According to the chancellor, Putin's proposals - that Ukraine give up four provinces occupied by Russia, stop fighting and renounce NATO membership - were only aimed at diverting attention from the conference.
However, according to security policy expert Bálint Somkuti, the next offer will be worse.
On the first day of the meeting, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasized that Russia must participate in the peace process.
It must be admitted: peace cannot be achieved without the involvement of Russia"
- stated the German chancellor.
"Russia can end this war today or any time if it stops the attacks and withdraws its troops from Ukraine"
Scholz added.
