Szőreg, which belongs to Szeged, is considered a real rose superpower. 98% of the country's rose stems can be found around the settlement, and 4.5-5 million roses are grown here every year.

From the point of view of growing roses, the most important environmental factor is light, and there is plenty of it here. The number of hours of sunshine in this area is the highest in the country.

In addition to the favorable conditions, about a century and a half of tradition and experience make Szőreg the domestic center of rose cultivation. The gardeners in Sőreg were first tobacco growers, then fruit and ornamental plant gardeners. The first rose garden was created in 1871 by Kálmán Pillich.

Today, the Sőreg rose is an internationally known product, it received European Union protection in 2012, and in 2020 it became a Hungarian product.

One of the highlights of the year in Szőreg is the Szőreg Rose Festival held at the end of June. The main attraction of the three-day event is the carnival parade, where a festive procession decorated with thousands of rose petals marches. At this time, you can also visit the rose fields, and anyone can walk among the many, many thousands of blooming rose trees.
