According to the Facebook post of Finance Minister Mihály Varga, the Capital Court rejected the mayor's request for immediate legal protection, so the treasury collected two billion forints from the capital's account. In the last five years, the capital has received a total of more than HUF 1,200 billion in tax revenue and state aid. Where's the money?

With this, more than HUF 30 billion in unpaid taxes had to be collected from the municipality

he added.

He went on to say that, meanwhile, Budapest is bankrupt: although the municipality collected 102 billion forints in taxes in the first 4 months of the year, its funds had nevertheless decreased to 9 billion forints by the end of April, its debt stock had increased by 30 billion forints, and with an additional 5 billion forints in unpaid taxes the municipality led by Gergely Karácsony is always responsible.

"In the left-wing fake news, the government is blamed for the empty capital coffers, but the facts refute this: in the last 5 years, the capital received a total of more than HUF 1,200 billion in tax revenue and state support, while the poorer settlements had to (should) pay HUF 188 billion in solidarity contributions in support of"

- said Mihály Varga.

Last year, the Budapest self-government instituted a lawsuit regarding the amount of the solidarity contribution imposed on Budapest this year. In July, the court rejected the petition at first instance due to lack of jurisdiction, but in September 2023 it granted legal protection to the capital for the contents of the lawsuit. On November 23, 2023, the administration of the capital filed a complaint because the Hungarian State Treasury collected HUF 5.6 billion from its account despite legal protection.
