In the past year, the number one hungaricum regained its rightful rank.

The National Pálinka and Törkölypálinka Competition, organized for the 11th time, makes a significant contribution to the building of Hungarian pálinka culture, to the promotion of consumers' information, and to the strengthening of the credit and recognition of the national drink, according to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture (AM), the head of the ministry said on Thursday at the competition's award ceremony in Budapest.

István Nagy highlighted that the best brandy and the most successful brandy distillery in Hungary are selected at this event, which is why such competitions

"recognition must be paid to those who make this noble drink and who transform the unadulterated essence of the fruits into a glass".

The head of the ministry explained that pálinka is more than a spirit drink for Hungarians.

"Pálinka is our singular hungaricum, which we regard as a national treasure. "In the past 30 years, Hungarian pálinka has regained its rightful place in gastronomy, hospitality and tourism, thanks to dedicated brewers, traders and hospitality professionals," he added.

The Minister of Agriculture recalled that the introduction of the pálinka law in 2008 and the European Union trademark obtained in 2004, as well as the protection of origin achieved in 2011, all contributed to increasing the quality and reputation of pálinka.

"Thanks go to the farmers and producers who provide high-quality Hungarian fruit for good pálinka," reminded István Nagy.

This year's National Pálinka and Törkölypálinka competition received 341 entries, of which 286 received recognition, 29 gold, 146 silver and 91 bronze items. As part of the award ceremony, Hungary's best pálinka 2024 award was also presented, which was earned by the Vilmoskörte pálinka of Brill Pálinkaház, which has twenty years of experience, reads the announcement of AM.
