18 thousand items competed.

Gizella Cellar's 6-putton 2019 Tokaj Aszu was among only fifty Best in Show wines at this year's edition of the Decanter World Wine Awards, considered one of the most prestigious wine competitions in the world.

This year, the world's largest wine and champagne competition, the Decanter World Wine Awards, was held for the 21st time. This year, more than 18,000 items from 57 countries were nominated, and around 250 wine experts gathered in London to judge them, including 61 Masters of Wine and 20 Master Sommeliers.

Among the nominated wines from Hungary, the jury awarded a Best in Show award, 4 platinum, 13 gold, 56 silver and 67 bronze medals.

Best in Show and platinum medals were awarded only to Tokaj wines from Hungary. Balassa Bor won two platinum medals, while Pajzos Tokaj and Sauska Tokaj won one each. The field of gold medalists included wines from the Balatonfüred-Csopaki, Tokaj, Somlói and Szekszárd wine regions.

Judging according to extremely strict rules, gold medals are awarded only for scores above 95 points, while gold medalists are rewarded with a platinum prize after retasting the best items (97-100 points). Only the 50 wines that are truly the most outstanding in their category can enter the Best in Show category.
