It is possible that the meeting will end with a divorce by mutual agreement, but this does not represent a risk for Hungarian-Italian relations, the Italian newspapers reported.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will travel to Rome on Monday to meet Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
The focus of the negotiations will be Hungary's EU presidency, as well as the clarification of Fidesz's accession to the Conservatives and Reformers party family led by Meloni.
Viktor Orbán and Giorgia Meloni agree on immigration, the demographic challenge, and European sovereignty, but their points of view differ on the appointment of EU leaders and support for Ukraine.
Nicola Procaccini, the co-chairman of the European Conservatives and Reformers party family, recently stated that if Fidesz wants to join the largest conservative group, it must sign the agreement on the support of Kyiv.
According to the Italian newspapers, it is possible that the Monday evening meeting in the prime minister's palace will end with a separation by mutual agreement, but this does not represent a risk for Hungarian-Italian relations.
The cooperation between Giorgia Meloni and Viktor Orbán remains solid, they agree on the need to change the European Union. According to the daily Il Corriere della Sera, it cannot be ruled out that Viktor Orbán will attempt to form a third right-wing group.
