German authorities have launched an investigation into a video recording of teenage schoolchildren waving Nazi arms during a trip to Poland, police announced on Monday.

The investigation into the illegal use of symbols of anti-constitutional organizations is ongoing.

The footage shows 17-year-old students from a school in Laatzen who went on a class trip to Krakow in mid-May to study Jewish history.

The incident happened the evening before the students' visit to the Auschwitz concentration camp, while the young people, apparently drunk, were watching videos of Adolf Hitler's speeches on the Internet, the school's director told the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung. The eight-second clip, which shows four students, was posted on Snapchat. The school management learned about the incident only after the excursion class returned home, which shocked and horrified the school management, added the director.
