The former Member of Parliament died unexpectedly in the 69th year of his life.

"László László Lutheran pastor, parish emeritus of the Csillaghey Evangelical Parish, former member of parliament, died unexpectedly on July 11, 2024, at the age of 69. The family will take care of his funeral later," read the obituary, which the family sent to Népszava.

László Donáth began his theological studies at the Evangelical Theological Academy in 1974, where he graduated in 1979.

Between 1994 and 2010, he worked as a member of parliament as a candidate of the Hungarian Socialist Party.

In addition to his public career, he is the chairman of the board of trustees of the Aranyág Foundation. His daughter, Anna Donáth, former EP representative of Momentum.

In the 1994 parliamentary election, he was the winning candidate of the Hungarian Socialist Party in individual electoral district No. 4 in Budapest (the northern part of Óbuda). He repeated this success in the next three elections. In the 2010 Hungarian parliamentary election, he ran in Budapest's individual electoral district No. 2 (a part of Bp. District II), but lost to István Balsai of Fidesz.
