Péter Magyar in the spring: "I'm not preparing to have any kind of paid political status in 3 months or six months, I don't want to make a living from it." Then it quickly became clear that the money was there...
Not so long ago, Péter Magyar approached the work of the European Parliament with condescending expressions and emphasized day after day that he was definitely not going to Brussels, Magyar Nemzet . In an interview in April, he looked down on the position of representative and talked about the fact that politicians only see Brussels as a place to pay:
"About two billion forints can be hung here in five years"
- He told.
In the spring, Magyar confirmed to 444.hu that he does not need the salary of an EP representative, or indeed any financial benefits resulting from a political position: "So I still plan to make a living from the market (...) in Hungary. If this doesn't work, I will obviously try it abroad, since I have to support my 3 children. But I don't think that making a living from the market and participating in politics, or I would rather call it public participation, contradict each other.
I am not preparing to have any kind of paid political status in 3 months or even half a year, I don't want to make a living from it"
Magyar argued, but of course he did the opposite.
As you know, at the end of June - barely two weeks after the election -
he took up his EP mandate, which entitled him to a monthly salary of nearly eight million forints and to reimbursement of expenses, office rent, employment of assistants and other benefits that could be several times that amount.
When he asked his followers on his Facebook page to vote for him to take up his EA mandate, among the countless arguments, none of them included the outstanding, multimillion-dollar salary. However, it is hard to imagine that he would not be interested in renting a bus, since he is known to like luxury, for example he traveled to the soccer European Championship in Germany in a BMW that is believed to be worth several tens of millions of forints.
