The former mayor considers it conceivable that the new Capital Assembly will be dissolved.
It is conceivable that Gergely Karácsony will not be able to gather such a majority around him that the composition of the mayor's cabinet will be accepted in the Capital Assembly. The result of this could easily be that the board is dissolved and a new election is called in Budapest.
- During the multiple recount parody, I already mentioned that whether Gergely Karácsony or Dávid Vitézy wins the election, he will not be in an enviable position. For my part, I am a Fidesz-KDNP voter, but I am neither a Karácsony nor a Vitézy supporter, because both people worked in Budapest, which I led, and I know them well, declared former mayor István Tarlós.
He reminded: in the Capital Assembly, the left-liberal block led by Gergely Karácsony and DK occupies seven seats, while Dávid Vitézy has two people, so it would be almost impossible for both politicians to create a majority in the assembly.
"That is why it is conceivable that the parties of the Capital Assembly will catch Karácsony by not voting on the budget.
The main question, however, is whether the Tisza Party wants to overthrow Karácsony,
a new election that is enforced too quickly can entail serious risks. If it appears that defeating Karácsony is the only consideration, it could easily be counterproductive in a repeated election," István Tarlós pointed out.
Regarding the election held on June 9, the former mayor emphasized that Gergely Karácsony could not be defeated by Vitézy even knowing his five-year performance, despite the fact that there was a change of mayor in the capital.
There is also the question of what would happen if Gergely Karácsony gave Dávid Vitézy the seat of deputy mayor, but this would not result in coalition security in terms of the polls either, because it is unthinkable for the Gyurcsánys, the LMP and Fidesz to form a grand coalition, István Tarlós noted. He added, knowing both candidates,
is absolutely certain that there would be unforeseeable and unpredictable consequences if Gergely Karácsony was the mayor and Dávid Vitézy was one of the deputies.
"I knew the candidates quite well because Karácsony, Dávid Vitézy and Alexandra Szentkirályi also worked in my system for a long time. Moreover, I was the employer of Dávid Vitézy and Alexandra Szentkirályi, while Karácsony was a member of the General Assembly for five years," recalled István Tarlós.
The mayor has until the inaugural meeting in October to make an offer to the parties in the general assembly, as a result of which the capital will remain governable for the next five years.
As part of this pact, Gergely Karácsony would have to agree with the larger factions. At the same time, there are fundamental differences between the parties in the General Assembly, and the political communication until 2026 makes it difficult for spectacular collapses or permanent alliances to form in the General Assembly.
As is known, Gergely Karácsony was announced as the winner of the mayoral election on July 12. After the second recount, the difference between Karácsony and Dávid Vitézy was 293 votes. At the meeting of the National Electoral Commission, it was established that the mayor election was won by Gergely Karácsony, who received 371,538 votes, 293 more than Dávid Vitézy, who received 371,245 votes. After the NVB procedure, it was also revealed that there were a total of 781,767 valid and 24,548 invalid ballots.
