He was immediately taken to the hospital, and although his heart stopped several times on the way, his condition was stabilized.

Olympic champion gymnast Henrietta Ónodi had a heart attack in March.

According to Nemzeti Sport, the 50-year-old world and European champion's heart stopped at his residence in Florida, he had to be resuscitated, and he has been in hospital since then.

The terrible news was announced on the Internet by the sister of Henrietta Ónodi, the 1992 Olympic champion in vaulting in Barcelona, Barbara Ónodi, and then the former teammate of the excellent gymnast, Andrea Molnár, shared it on her Facebook page.

"I am desperately asking for help to raise money for my sister, 50-year-old Henrietta Ónodi, who suffered a serious heart attack. As many of you know, Heni is a Hungarian national hero, Olympic gold and silver medalist, who was always among the first to lend a hand and support those in need."

The mother of three children, who has lived in America for years, became ill and collapsed in a grocery store in Florida on March 28. He was immediately taken to the hospital, and although his heart stopped several times on the way, his condition was stabilized. They found an almost complete blockage in his arteries, so a life-saving operation was performed on him.

“He was stabilized and taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with almost total arterial occlusion. He was immediately operated on to save his life. He is currently being treated in the hospital. This unexpected event is an incredible challenge for Heni and her family, both emotionally and financially. His current condition requires long-term care and extensive rehabilitation to restore him to health.

His current insurance does not cover the care needed for recovery," wrote Barbara Ónodi on social media in English, who immediately started fundraising in the gymnastics community to cover the costs of her brother's treatment.

Her mother, who lives in Békéscsaba, believed that it was a godsend that this happened to her daughter in a store, and not while sitting in the car or alone at home, because then the end of the cardiac arrest would probably have been a tragedy. He added that the ex-gymnast's Olympic pension is transferred to him every month, and his sister covers the costs. However, hospital rehabilitation is a huge burden, because her daughter will not be able to work for a long time. For now, his recovery is the goal, and even though he has insurance, it only covers the costs to a limited extent, so a fundraiser has been started for him on social media.
