The historical sin of the Brussels bureaucrats is that the European Union's ability to assert its interests is now weaker than at any time before.
"Thanks" to the President of the European Commission (Ursula von der Leyen) and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs (Josep Borrell), the EU is now unable to protect its own member states (Slovakia and Hungary) against the blackmail of a member candidate (Ukraine).
By blocking Lukoil's oil shipments, Ukraine endangered one third of Hungarian crude oil imports and 45% of Slovak crude oil imports. This Ukrainian move puts the security of energy supply in both Hungary and Slovakia at risk.
And the European Commission, instead of standing on its heels and protecting its two member countries, prefers to find excuses and excuse the blackmailing actions of Ukraine.
This is unacceptable and outrageous behavior on the part of Brussels bureaucrats.
Today, we discussed on the phone with my Slovak colleague, Juraj Blanar, and we agreed to continue the joint, coordinated action, and we agreed that the actions of both Ukraine and the Commission are unacceptable, and we will not give in to blackmail even if it comes from Kiev or Brussels.
