After the silver in the 200 meters, the Hungarian swimmer won a gold medal in the 100 butterfly.

Kristóf Milák won a gold medal in the 100-meter butterfly at the Paris Olympics on Saturday. The 24-year-old world class of the Honvéd triumphed with a time of 49.90 seconds, thereby obtaining his second and the 31st five-ring championship title of Hungarian swimming.

Milák won the 200-meter butterfly three years ago in Tokyo, was second in the 100-meter with a European record, while in the French capital on Wednesday he also won a silver medal in the longer distance.

The Hungarian star swam the best time in Friday's preliminaries (50.19 seconds) and in the semi-finals (50.38 seconds), so he expected to start from the field of four.

After the start, he came up first, but this time his rivals started much faster than him, and he only turned fourth. This time, however, he coped well, swam the best second fifty in 26.50 seconds and crossed the finish line with 49.90 seconds.

Milák thus became the second male swimmer in the history of the Olympics to win four medals in butterfly swimming, so far only the 23-time champion American Michael Phelps has succeeded, he was on the podium eight times. Milák also became the third Hungarian swimmer, after Krisztina Egerszegi and Tamás Darnyi, who was able to stand on top of the podium in two different five-ring games.

The Hungarian competitor achieved the second best result of his life in this event, he swam better only in the final in Tokyo, when he finished second behind the American Caeleb Dressel with his European record of 49.68 seconds. The latter was still in the field, but did not make it to the finals.

The last time at the 1996 Atlanta Games, at least two Hungarian swimmers won in the pool, Attila Czene won in the 200-meter medley, Krisztina Egerszegi in the 200-meter backstroke, and
Norbert Rózsa won in the 200-meter breaststroke.
