The Slovaks already treat it as a fact, that alternatives to the gas coming through Ukraine would bring a significant increase in price.

It is extremely important to maintain gas transit through Ukraine, because although there are alternative solutions, their use would lead to a significant increase in consumer prices, said Pavol Kubík, spokesman for the Slovak gas transport company Eustream, speaking to the Sita news agency on Monday.

"Thanks to the investments completed on time, Slovakia has two-way (gas transport) connections with neighboring countries, but the transport of alternative sources, liquefied gas, involves higher costs, what's more, this possibility can be complicated by the narrow mouths of the pipelines in some countries," he pointed out. to Pavol Kubík.

He added:

all of these factors would lead to a non-negligible increase in the consumer price of gas.

In response to the news agency, Eustream's spokesperson said: the danger of stopping gas transit through Ukraine to Slovakia is real from the beginning of next year, but the maintenance of this traditional gas transit is extremely important from the point of view of Slovakian consumers as well as for other consumers in the region.

According to Pavol Kubík, there are possibilities to maintain gas transit through Ukraine, but no agreement has yet been reached between the interested parties.

He also said that the transit of the gas coming to Slovakia via the Nagykapos (Velké Kapusany) entry point is currently taking place in accordance with the orders, but the volume of these orders is significantly lower than it was before the crisis in Ukraine.
