An elderly male patient, who had previously been bedridden and almost dehydrated, died. The family was not notified of the death.

The elderly patient who was tied to his bed died in the private hospital in Várpalota. The family was not informed of the death. The police and the National Center for Public Health and Pharmaceuticals initiated proceedings in the case.

The relatives could not even reach the doctor on duty at the Szent Donát Hospital in Várpalota, where they asked for HUF 440,000 for the care.

According to the private hospital's review, the "restrictive measure", that is, the confinement, was legal. A few days after the incident, the man's relative inquired about the old man's condition at the hospital, when

they told me that papa had passed away - no one was looking for us

- the relative told RTL news .

According to the relative

during the visitation, papa was bound, both his hands and both legs, he couldn't move, there was no chance for him to drink or anything...

recalls the old man's relative.

The nurses said they tied up his father-in-law because the old man wanted to leave the hospital. According to the relative , "dad couldn't even raise his hand, let alone go somewhere".

At the family's request, the man's hand was untied, but by then it was already very dry. They were unable to discuss what had happened with a doctor, even though they believed that this would have been important due to the condition of their sick relative.

We called the nurses one after the other on the phone, everyone said that there was no doctor, there was no doctor. They have 300 patients, but no doctor

- said the relative, adding that during the visiting time, from 2 to 5 in the afternoon, they did not reach the doctor on duty, who, according to the nurses, was not even in the hospital. They had to wait until 8 o'clock in the evening, when they were told by phone that their relative had not been seen by a doctor. However, they did not receive an answer as to why.

The police are investigating the circumstances of the death within the framework of general administrative regulations. The relatives have not yet filed a complaint regarding the matter as they have not received any official documents from the hospital.

The National Center for Public Health and Pharmaceuticals conducts an official inspection.

This is not the only case

Relatives of several other patients contacted RTL. The complaints were similar, reporting indecent treatment and restraints.

According to Tamás Rácz, the general director of the Várpalota Szent Donát Hospital, two complaints were received this year, none of which were related to the recording of the patient, and after an investigation it turned out that they were unfounded.

The hospital has removed the ad from its social media platforms, stating that they provide permanent medical supervision to their patients.
