Of course, in the women's field.
The 50-year-old Italian sprinter will be the first transgender to participate in the Paralympics.
The 50-year-old visually impaired sprinter, who "changed gender" in 2019, will compete in the women's 200m and 400m flat races in Paris. Valentina Petrillo was previously an 11-time national champion among men in the T12 category, and last year she already won bronze medals among women in the 200 and 400 at the World Para-Athletics Championships, which were also held in the French capital.
At the age of 14, Petrillo was diagnosed with Stargardt's disease, which limits his vision to one-fiftieth of the normal range. The Italian para-athlete already made it to the Tokyo Games, but at the last moment the Italian government did not allow him to travel.
The Paralympics will be held between August 28 and September 8. Hungarian colors are represented by 39 para-athletes in 68 events in the French capital.
