Both 9-12. a Hungarian team of students from the first grade won a silver medal, and one of the Hungarian student teams took third place overall at the International Student Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI) held in Bulgaria.
According to the announcement of the Neumann Company, the competition, which will be held on August 9-15 held in Burgas between
almost two hundred students from six continents compared their skills, Hungary was also represented by two teams of four.
At the competition, both Hungarian teams won silver medals in the scientific tasks (in addition to them, the Chinese, Vietnamese, Mongolian and Estonian teams also received silver), and the Hungarian team 1 received a silver medal for the practical tasks.
Since the jury of the student Olympiad summed up the results of the two rounds, the overall ranking is the Hungarian 1st team - Ádám Vajda (ELTE Radnóti Miklós Gyakorló Gymnázium), Balázs Szilágyi and Vince Ungár (Békásmegyeri Veres Péter Gymnázium) and Zita Hédi Kovács-Bánhalmi (Júlia Bányai Kecskemét High School) - finished in third place, so the students also received a special plaque for their performance.
The members of the 2nd team were Anna Christ Miranda from Budapest Mihály Fazekas High School, Gergely Lehota from Pécs Janus Pannonius High School, István Ádám Molnár from Ferenc Földes High School in Miskolc and Leonard Dávid Nagy from ELTE Apáczai Csere János High School.
The two team leaders of the Hungarian teams of IOAI 2024 were Associate Professor Ferenc Huszár (University of Cambridge) and PhD student Gergő Szalay (ELTE).
According to the report, the practice round was held with the participation of one of Bulgaria's most successful singers, Maria Ilieva. He made a special remix of his song Love, and the task of the participating students was to use AI tools to generate a unique album cover and music video in the four hours available.
During the scientific and practical rounds of the competition, the teams had to solve tasks related to three areas - natural language processing (NLP), machine learning and machine vision.
The organizers also provided a free online course and study material for all participating student Olympiads. In Hungary, the students' knowledge was deepened by additional online courses and the summer camp that prepared the national team.
The selection, preparation, delegation and participation of the starting students and their participation in the competition was realized with the cooperation of the János Neumann Computer Science Society (NJSZT) and the ELTE Faculty of Informatics.
The 2025 International Artificial Intelligence Student Olympiad will be hosted by Beijing, it was written in the announcement.
