Despite rising costs, families feel the start of the school year to be somewhat less of a burden overall this year, Erste Bank Hungary Zrt. told MTI. Based on the results of the financial institution's representative research, he wrote,

many people save in advance for starting school, but at the same time, there are those who take out loans, because the majority still do not have enough monthly income to cover the expenses associated with schooling.

According to the bank's survey, starting school represents a significant financial burden for 69 percent of parents, and another six percent stated that they will not even be able to raise the required minimum. According to last year's survey on the same topic, the ratio was still 73 and 8 percent, the company reminded in the announcement.

They added that

24 percent of parents - 19 percent last year - answered that starting school does not cause financial problems.

This year, most families expect to spend between HUF 20,000 and HUF 50,000 on schooling per child. According to a fifth of the parents, the costs can reach up to HUF 100,000, and another six percent plan to spend even more than that - the additional data were presented.

They explained that among the types of publications, stationery is in the first place, teaching tools such as rulers and compasses are in the second place, while notebooks are in the third place. 46 percent of parents plan to buy sports equipment and bags, they added.

The survey was conducted by interviewing 300 people representing Hungary's 16-59-year-old population.
