Nesze lame, here's a hump: those who worked in difficult conditions were the ones who went to pore.
The new pension law also has its victims, as it severely affects those who have a shorter contribution period but worked under difficult conditions, such as miners, railway workers, oil and steel workers. When the postman arrived with the recalculation decision, some people fainted when they saw that their pensions had been severely reduced, Digi24 reported.
Elderly Vasile, who had worked as a train driver all his life, was shocked when the postman handed him the decision to recalculate his pension. His particularly difficult working conditions paid off when he retired, as he received more than 7,000 lei so far. However, after the recalculation, his pension was reduced by more than 2,500 lei: from 7,300 to 4,800 lei. Vasile Apătroaiei also worked as a heater on a steam locomotive at the beginning, he worked in difficult conditions throughout his service, he does not understand how reduction is possible after a lifetime of hard work, he complained to Digi24.
According to Rodrigo Maxim, president of the Romanian State Railways Passenger Railway Workers' Association, those who worked in special working conditions, such as drivers, assistant drivers and train driver trainers, are now losing out as the correction indexes are being removed. Miners did the same. During the recalculations, the tax payer's contribution payment period - after 20 years of employment - was declared an incomplete contribution payment period, so their pension could be cut in half.
"Pension funds cheated miners and energy workers, and we are going to court. When they calculate the pension, they do that 13 and 15 year reduction for underground workers and calculate the amount accordingly. We have people with very, very low pensions, whose pensions have been cut in half."
- explained Constantin Crețan, president of the National Union of Workers.
In an interview with Digi24, the head of the Pension Fund said that those with special and special working conditions are not penalized, but can still enjoy the benefits of their work group. However, their pension will not be indexed from the beginning of the year. Daniel Baciu, president of the National Pension Fund, stated that they were not indexed because these people already have an increased amount of pension. “The other pensioners below them have to catch up to that amount first, and then they all go up by the same amount. The score matters. The pension was not reduced. People get the same pension," Baciu said.
The approximately 720,000 pensioners - who will receive a smaller allowance after the recalculation - will have to wait until the new, inflation-adjusted amount of the pension exceeds the current amount before they can receive an increase, i.e. they will not receive anything extra when the indexation comes into effect in 2025.
