Prime Minister Gergely Gulyás criticized the June decision of the European Court of Justice, which ordered Hungary to pay a fine of 200 million euros for violating the bloc's asylum rules, in Thursday's government briefing, the Washington Post .
The paper recalled Gergely Gulyás's statement that
if the EU wants to force Hungary to let migrants in at all costs, then its country will provide all migrants with a free ticket to Brussels. Right-wing Prime Minister Viktor Orbán previously vowed that Hungary would not change its migration and asylum policy, regardless of the decisions of the European Court of Justice.
According to the newspaper, the Hungarian government's threat to transport the migrants to Brussels is reminiscent of similar actions by the Republican governors of the United States, who since 2022 have transported undocumented immigrants by bus or plane to Democratic strongholds such as New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, in protest at the against federal asylum procedures.
