After the death of Levente Király, the holders of the title chose a new member among themselves.
"Géza D. Hegedűs (originally Géza Hegedűs, Ibrány, May 7, 1953) Kossuth and Jászai Mari award-winning Hungarian actor, director, university associate professor, worthy and excellent artist, former vice-rector of the University of Theater and Film, MASZK Országos President of the Actors' Association, member of the Hungarian Theater Society's presidency and the National Performing Arts Interest Coordination Council (NEÉT), a perpetual member of the Society of the Immortals," reads the Facebook page of the National Theater.
"The title of Actor of the Nation can be awarded to the artist chosen by the holders of the title for outstanding activities in the field of Hungarian theater, the development and popularization of national theater, the interpretation of national literature and the cultivation of the Hungarian language. A maximum of twelve people can hold the title at the same time, and if one of them dies, the other holders of the title decide who can take the vacant place. Géza D. Hegedűs was chosen to replace Levente Király, who died on July 30," the theater added.

This year, the members are gathering for the third time, for the first time Sándor Csikos was elected to replace Miklós Benedek, who died at the beginning of the year. And most recently, on May 3, after the death of Géza Tordy in March, János Kulka received the honorary title.
The title of Actor of the Nation can be awarded to those who have made outstanding merits in the field of nurturing the Hungarian language, interpreting national literature, Hungarian theater, and the development and popularization of national theater. The title was first awarded on August 22, 2000.
