According to David Pressman, it is more than extraordinary that Kövér did not allow the opposition's LGBTQ conference into Parliament.

DK, MSZP, Momentum and Párbeszéd would have held a conference in the parliament dealing with the situation of the Hungarian LGBTQ community, but László Kövér did not allow this. Several ambassadors of the opposition parties and the participants of the informal meeting of the ministers responsible for European affairs in Budapest were also invited.

The event was thus held in the Nádor Street building of the Central European University (CEU) on Tuesday, attended by David Pressman, the US Ambassador to Budapest, among many ambassadors.

It is more than extraordinary that the elected parliament members of an EU member state are not allowed to enter the Parliament building to discuss human rights

- Pressman said before the conference about László Kövér's rejection, according to the Telex article, which was viewed by 24.hu.

At the last moment, four days before the event, the President of the Parliament responded to the request for a room at the end of July by the President of the Democratic Party, Ferenc Gyurcsány, last week. "I would like to inform you that the room request of September 3, 2024 - in view of XXXVI of 2012 to my obligation contained in Section 2 (1) of the Act - I am unable to fulfill it," Kövér wrote.

According to the referred paragraph, the task of the speaker is to ensure the exercise of the rights of the Parliament, to ensure the protection of the authority of the Parliament, the maintenance of the order and security of the Parliament, and the organization of the work of the Parliament.

"We see a political intention behind the decision. This is a good indication of the government's relationship with LGBTQ rights and the LGBTQ community," said László Sebián-Petrovszki, the representative of the DK parliament that organized the conference, to the newspaper.
