The hussars make sense if they are still part of the national defense as a real, fighting unit with operational value.

The Young Hussar program, which teaches equestrian skills and hussar traditions, has been launched for the students of the Kratochvil Károly Honvéd Secondary School and College in Hódmezővásárhely, announced János Czermann, the Deputy Secretary of State responsible for strategy and human policy at the Ministry of National Defense, on Wednesday in Hódmezővásárhely.

At the press day organized on the occasion of the launch of the educational program, the politician singled out the Nádasdy Hussar Regiment, founded in 1688, as the oldest regular regiment of the Hungarian Armed Forces, among the Hungarian cavalry military traditions. He added: after the soul-destroying unworthy decades of the 20th century, the Count Nádasdy Ferenc Hussar Division was re-established in 2020 within the framework of the National Guard.

The deputy state secretary quoted Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, the Minister of National Defense, who said at the Nádasdy Hussars division flag handover ceremony organized recently,

"the hussars make sense if they are still part of the national defense as a real, fighting unit with operational value.

In other words, there is a need for a NATO-compatible reconnaissance unit that represents the Hungarian hussar traditions in character and spirit".

Therefore, a hussar division equipped with the most modern equipment, Gidrán and Lynx combat vehicles, will be created, which will be part of the Nádasdy hussar regiment, János Czermann announced. The Nádasdy hussar regiment is not only a recognized unit of soldiers and horses, but the glorious spiritual heritage of our military nation, which needs not only to be nurtured and guarded, but also to be accepted and lived - the politician emphasized.

With the Young Hussar program, a new service has been added to the Kratochvil Károly Honvéd Secondary School and College in Hódmezővásárhely. Funded by the Ministry of National Defense, the students can learn horsemanship and horse care free of charge, and learn about hussar and troop traditions, the Deputy State Secretary announced.

Colonel István Varga, commander of the Count Ferenc Nádasdy Hussar Division, emphasized that Hódmezővásárhely has an important place in hussar traditions, the hussar squadron stationed in the garrison from September 1885, and the town is also famous for its horse breeding.

The Young Hussar program is available to the students of the Kratochvil Károly Honvéd Secondary School and College in hódmezővásárhely on a voluntary basis.

In the future, they would like to make the opportunity available to the students of the other locations of the secondary school, and the training would be started in Budapest and Kiskunhalas as well, the colonel said. The commander trusts him, many of the students participating in the training will start or continue their military careers as members of the hussar division.
