Prime Minister Gergely Gulyás announced that the government decided yesterday to launch a National Consultation on the most important pillars of the new economic policy, so Hungarian voters have the opportunity to express their opinion on the main steps.

The world economy has changed since the epidemic and the wars, Hungary must also adapt to this, said Gergely Gulyás. As he said, the key to this is a work-based economy. He emphasized that Hungary is doing well in this regard, with one of the highest employment rates in the Union.

1.1 million more people work than in 2010. The preservation of this, if possible, its further expansion is the solid foundation of Hungarian economic policy.

Gulyás stated that we must continue to focus on growth, despite the fact that there will probably be a recession in Germany this year. In Austria, since the years after the Second World War, there has not been such a decrease as it is now. According to the minister, we are waiting for investments from the West and the East.

There will be 11 questions in the national consultation

The national consultation will consist of 11 questions, the specific questions will be announced this week. The national consultation takes place between November and December, and it will be possible to return until December 20.

An economic policy action plan was adopted

"At yesterday's meeting, the government continued to develop new elements of the economic policy in preparation for the budget," said Gergely Gulyás, the minister in charge of the Prime Minister's Office.

"We have adopted an economic policy action plan, the aim of which is for the growth of the Hungarian economy to be between 3 and 6 percent," he said.

The minister in charge of the Prime Minister's Office said that the economic policy action plan is based on three pillars:

  • increasing the purchasing power of incomes,
  • ensuring adequate housing
  • and the so-called Sándor Demján program, which would help to double the size of SMEs.

"These three pillars contain a total of 21 measures," said Gergely Gulyás.

"We strive to conclude a long-term, predictable, preferably three-year wage agreement with the employee and employer interest representatives. This makes it possible to significantly increase the minimum wage and the guaranteed minimum wage in such a way that it serves the interests not only of employers and employees, but of the country as a whole," said the minister in charge of the Prime Minister's Office.

Gergely Gulyás added that the previously mentioned worker's loan program will also be launched, and the government will double the sja discount for children, 50 percent each next year and 2026.

They want to tighten Airbnb's conditions

The government wants to tighten the conditions of private accommodation services, i.e. Airbnb, announced Gergely Gulyás.

There is no specific decision regarding this yet. We believe that the extent to which Airbnb contributes to the fact that the increase in rents - especially in the capital - was explosive - because everyone agrees that it contributes, at most the extent of this can be questioned - stressed the head of the Prime Minister's Office minister.

The apartment rents and the conditions of the related contracts will also be examined.

"We consider the unconditional respect of property rights to be important. Despite this, we consider it justified to investigate the apartment rents and contract conditions," he added.

They are launching a rural home renovation program

The minister in charge of the Prime Minister's Office also spoke about the fact that the government is launching a rural home renovation program.

The use of voluntary pension fund savings for temporary housing based on an optional voluntary decision will also be made possible, and a tax discount will be provided for housing support provided by the employer

- revealed in the briefing.

the existing discounted 5 percent VAT rate for the sale of new residential properties at least until the end of 2026 , Gulyás announced, adding that a 5 percent, voluntarily undertaken housing loan interest ceiling will be introduced for the banking sector.

This is done in cooperation with the banks. Minister of National Economy Márton Nagy has already discussed this several times.

The government will temporarily ensure the use of 50 percent of the amounts received on the Széchenyi rest card for home renovation.

Sándor Demján program

In order to help small and medium-sized enterprises, the government announces the Sándor Demján program.

"Small and medium-sized enterprises are the backbone of the Hungarian economy, which is why their support and strengthening significantly contribute to the rise in wages," said Gergely Gulyás.

They are also starting a capital financing program , this is a new tool and will help investments and developments. A support program to stimulate investment for small and medium-sized enterprises will also be launched, as well as support for digitization with resources.
