Successful projects must either be of national importance or network development.

More than sixty-five billion forints worth of EU funds can be made available for active tourism developments in this cycle, including money for the development of water tourism, the State Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office responsible for active Hungary announced on Saturday at the conference entitled Aktív Rába - Experience from Obstacles in Szentgotthárd.

Máriusz Révész explained in his presentation: the government adopted the water tourism strategy last week, the details of which will be published in a colorful informational material at the end of October.

According to the state secretary, access to resources can also be helped by network cooperation, such as the one created a year ago by the Aktív Rába Association, which organized the current conference in Szentgotthárd.

Successful projects must either be of national importance or a network development. The development ideas related to water tourism in Rába correspond to both, he said.

He added: There are three thousand kilometers of navigable rivers in Hungary, and together with natural lakes, our resources are "fantastic".

Despite everything, today we still only use a very small part of our possibilities, he added.

There is currently no unified marketing for water tourism, the rules for water tourism are "interesting", in many cases outdated and unreasonably strict in some points, at the same time, the services available along the water routes need to be further expanded - Máriusz Révész listed his personal hiking experiences as an example.

He suggested that multi-functional stopping points could be created next to the rivers, which could simultaneously serve tourists with bicycles and boots, as well as water hikers.

For this, for example, transport vehicles that are suitable for transporting bicycles, canoes, and kayaks could be acquired. In this way, groups of tourists could arrive, say by bicycle, who could continue the tour on the water, he said.

Zsolt Kocsis, the president of the Aktív Rába Association, said: over the past year, they have managed to negotiate regional development ideas with their member organizations, the primary goal of which is to increase the "passability" and navigability of the river.

Among their achievements, he listed, for example, the organization of this year's large-scale season-opening event, as well as several campaigns organized to clean the Rába. Their contribution in the fact that the pieces of the old bridge piers, which had been resting in the water for more than eighty years under the Csörötnek bridge, were finally removed.

He was also happy to say that planning for the construction of a boat slip and a fish ladder at the Magyarlak dam has begun, and they hope that construction can take place within a few years.
