The Budapest city government promised, but never did anything regarding Airbnb regulation, the head of the Fidesz-KDNP faction in the capital announced on Thursday in a video shared on his Facebook page.

Alexandra Szentkirályi pointed out : Mayor Gergely Karácsony is like a sunflower in the Airbnb issue, only he does not turn towards the sun, but always towards less work.

"In the 2019 campaign, for example, the mayor promised to regulate Airbnb in the capital and said that comprehensive regulations would be introduced so that Airbnb would not make housing impossible for the people of Budapest, and then a year later he had a completely different opinion. Now, when the Airbnb regulation is being prepared, he accuses the government of not having the courage to entrust the regulation to him alone," said the faction leader.

Alexandra Szentkirályi recalled: Karácsony "first promised that he would do it, then he was happy that the districts had to do it, and now he regrets that the government will do it for him".

"This is difficult to follow, but one certain point remained at the City Hall. The Karácsonys promised but never did anything about Airbnb regulation. The government has satisfied this inaction, which is why it has to intervene in the housing crisis in Budapest, because the people of Budapest deserve more than this."
