The Vojvodina Hungarian Association (VMSZ) is an active and unavoidable factor in the Hungarian-Serbian relationship system, said the Hungarian president after a meeting with Bálint Pásztor, the president of the VMSZ, in Palic on Sunday.
The President of the Republic emphasized: the Hungarian community in Vojvodina has enjoyed community and individual respect in Serbia for many years, and the acquired rights of Hungarians have not suffered and will not suffer.
He added that thanks to this, Hungary sees Serbia not only as a strategic partner, but also as a sincere friend.
There are a significant number of Hungarians living in Serbia, including in Vojvodina - reminded the head of state, who therefore considered it important to consult with the leaders of the representative bodies of Hungarians in Vojvodina before his official meetings in Belgrade on Monday.
Tamás Sulyok said about Monday's visit: he will have a meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, then he will also meet Prime Minister Milos Vucevic and the Speaker of the Republic of Serbia.
The President of the Republic reminded: on June 26, 2013, as one of the milestones of the Hungarian-Serbian reconciliation process, the then Head of State János Áder and the Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic jointly bowed their heads to the II. in front of the Čsurogi memorials of Hungarian and Serbian victims who were innocently executed during World War II.
He added that on Monday, after the official negotiations in Belgrade, they will visit Csúrog with the President of the Republic Aleksandar Vucic, and then together they will hand over the renovated Roman Catholic Church of Havas Bolgodasszony in Zsablya.
In his speech, Tamás Sulyok remembered István Pásztor, the late president of VMSZ, who passed away almost a year ago, and who had "immortal merits in the successful Hungarian-Serbian reconciliation process".
"The will he represented to face the neuralgic points of our historical past made it possible to create the atmosphere of trust that laid the foundation for the strategic partnership of the two countries today, thus creating the possibility for the Serbian nationality in Hungary and the Hungarians of Vojvodina to prosper in their homeland," he added. .
President Tamás Sulyok was also informed about the situation of the Hungarian community, the struggles, achievements and objectives of the Hungarian community in Vojvodina, said Bálint Pásztor at the press event following the meeting. He emphasized that the topic of the negotiation was, among other things, economic development, domestic political conditions and historical reconciliation.
The president of the VMSZ called it an honor that Tamás Sulyok started his visit to Serbia in Palic and met with the leaders of the Vojvodina Hungarian Association.
He emphasized: all this also shows that the President of the Republic considers Hungarian-Hungarian cooperation to be very important.
Bálint Pásztor said: the president of the republic was informed about the politicization of the Vojvodina Hungarian Association at the national provincial and municipal level, as well as about the objectives and results of the Hungarian National Council.
The president of the VMSZ reminded: there are some important objectives from a national political point of view that started in Vojvodina, and there are also some that can be said to have been realized only here. This is where the idea of dual citizenship started, and Hungarian personal minority autonomy was also realized here in the form of the Hungarian National Council, he emphasized.
He explained about the results of economic development in Vojvodina: investments of around half a billion euros were realized from Hungarian government funds, supporting more than 16 thousand Hungarian farmers, entrepreneurs and families in Vojvodina, thus contributing to the competitiveness of members of the Hungarian community in Vojvodina.
He explained: the Hungarian community in Vojvodina is an important player in Serbia's domestic politics through its eight state secretaries, six members of parliament, provincial speaker and other provincial government officials.
Drawing attention to the importance of historical reconciliation, he recalled: 11 years ago, the presidents of the republic at that time bowed their heads together to World War II. in front of the Čsurogi memorials of Hungarian and Serbian victims who were innocently executed during World War II.
