The biggest problem for the Hungarians in Transylvania and Romania is population decline. According to the 2021 census, 1 million 100 thousand Hungarians live in Romania.
One million and one hundred thousand people is a strong community and we should not panic, but act, says presidential candidate Kelemen Hunor.
The Székelyföld and Brasó and Szeben county organizations of the RMDSZ held their campaign launch in Csíkszereda, at the event Kelemen Hunor also discussed the problem of population decline. He said, as a community leader, one should not envision the death of the nation. A strong community of one million to one hundred thousand people creates value every day. One million to one hundred thousand people plan their future and live their everyday lives in their homeland. It's a huge force, a huge force. Immeasurable treasure, wealth and power.
"So we don't have to panic, we have to act. We need to understand why there is this huge demographic decline, the population decline. And we see that there are several reasons for this. There was a material reason for this, a financial reason, better earning opportunities, better living conditions in the west and north, slow development, many promises, few results... And we saw that the loss of hope followed"
he explained.
The state has grown on us
The president of the RMDSZ stated that we hear more and more, say those with whom we talk, that the problem is that the state has grown on us.
"They say he takes more than he gives, that he doesn't provide the right services for our taxes, that he doesn't trust us. They say - and they are right - that it humiliates the citizen, messes with the citizens and makes everything too complicated and unfair"
- He told.
As an example, he heard about a case in Székelyföld the other day: someone left, he needed a financial and moral certificate that he did not owe the state. He went to the financial office, the aunt is sitting there, who by the way is not at fault, because the administration is like this, because she acts according to the internal procedure, she writes the paper by hand, not too quickly, that the person does not owe the state any money. In the meantime, you wait for your turn, then you receive this paper, and then you see where to submit it. It should be given to the other "ghișeu". You move to the other line, there are four or five people in front of you, you lose another 15-20-30 minutes there, you hand in the paper in the same place.
"Why can't they give each other the paper? They have all the information. Why are you the postman?”
– asked Kelemen Hunor.
"This has to be changed! We want to change that. This can be changed. When we were in government, we proved that we were able to simplify the procedures, we were able to introduce citizen-friendly and local government-friendly procedures. And as they pushed me out of government, they stopped. They were abolished in the Ministry of Development, they were abolished in the Ministry of Environmental Protection. And the old order was finally able to return: they fill out the application by hand again, put it in a file on the rails, go into the ministry again - open the door with their head, hand in the application; and they enjoy the old order again"
he emphasized.
There must be a good response to population decline
He believes that politics has no greater and more complex task than to provide a good answer to population decline, there is no greater task than to restore hope to citizens that it is possible to build a future at home, in the homeland, and to put the state at the service of citizens and communities, the all state institutions.
"First of all, there is a need for a state diet. Yes, what is unnecessary must be closed. Yes, what doesn't work needs to be transformed. You have to get rid of unnecessary expenses. At the same time, we do not deny the need for a state that is smaller but strong. You can intervene when there is a problem with energy prices, when the community needs you to help. And it can step in when it is necessary to provide services to the citizens"
- detailed the candidate for the head of state.
He believes that the head of state should be the president of the citizens and should be on the side of the people. Because they elect him, vote for him, give him the authority to do his job.
"When I accepted this nomination, that's why I accepted it. I undertook to be the voice of the Hungarians, to amplify the message of the Hungarian community, to take it to Bucharest, to bring it to the Romanian political public life. I took it on because I want to be the candidate of every citizen, Hungarian, Romanian, citizen of any ethnicity and language, who wants to change this many unjust, over-bureaucratized and unfair administrations. I took it on because I thought we knew the problems, I thought we knew the solutions. I wanted to be the candidate for solutions, the candidate for common sense"
Kelemen Hunor pointed out.
