In an interview with the Austrian TV channel AUF1, the Prime Minister answered this to a question related to migration, and further explained that what we will see in the future will no longer be one Europe, but two separate societies within one continent.
Viktor Orbán gave an interview to the Austrian press, in which he spoke, among other things, about the Russian-Ukrainian war and what he believed to be a "Brussels conspiracy". He also said how he thinks the future of Europe could develop in the coming decades.
AUF1, a TV channel linked to the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ), was able to question the prime minister for more than half an hour. Their first question was why Viktor Orbán talked about a conspiracy in Brussels in his speech a week and a half ago.
The prime minister replied:
"If you look at what is happening in Brussels, you can see that they want to circumvent the sovereign rights of the member states. And they want to build a rather globalist structure in the European Union".
He added that they are opposed by the countries that oppose all of this, do not want to give more rights to the Brussels bureaucracy, and view them with "suspicion". Viktor Orbán then brought up the case of Poland as an example. As he said, before the previous election last fall, the European Commission and the European People's Party (EPP) both announced that they would not give money to the conservative government, but if the voters voted for "a liberal, pro-Brussels government", then they would. .
So what is this? This is blackmail, this is interference in national decision-making. We can call it a conspiracy, but an open conspiracy, the well-known policy of the Brussels bureaucracy. The same is happening in Hungary
- said the prime minister, then added: "There is nothing new in what I said, it is just a simple description of the situation in Brussels".
Hungary is "the island of otherness" in Europe
Then, AUF1 editor-in-chief Stefan Magnet asked Viktor Orbán why he thinks the globalists "want to sideline" him. The prime minister said that, in his opinion, Hungary today forms an island in Europe, "in the progressive-liberal ocean".
Hungary is an island, an island of otherness. We don't know exactly what it is. We can say that it is conservative, Christian, national, it is not easy to define, but it is definitely not part of the liberal ocean
- he said, and then added: in his opinion, Hungary is seen as a danger in Brussels because of this
“this means that not only the ocean exists, but also the islands. If one island is created, then a second, third or fourth can also be created”.
He noted that, in his opinion, in a democracy, the alternative, this kind of "competition", should be natural, but Brussels is not open to this, which is why they see a danger. But according to him, the fact that Hungary is successful poses an even greater danger to them, because "there are no migrants" in Hungary, so there is no crime and no terrorist attacks.
"Migration is associated with a higher level of anti-Semitism, which does not exist in Hungary. In addition, it is associated with homophobia, which does not exist in Hungary. Migrants also increase the danger that women will not receive equal treatment, which Hungary insists on"
- listed, then added:
Hungary is a success story because certain values are protected much better in Hungary than in liberal countries. On the other hand, we are also economically successful. In other words, we are not just a simple alternative, but also a successful alternative, and this is their problem.
According to him, this is where the front lines are drawn
Then it was discussed where the "front line" between globalists and sovereignists currently lies. In this regard, Viktor Orbán said that changes are taking place, and because of this the boundaries between political trends have become blurred, because everything revolves around three issues, and they affect everyone.
"The first is the question of war or peace, the war in Ukraine, the Russian war against Ukraine. The second is migration, supporting or opposing migration. And the third is family-friendliness or a multicultural gender approach to families. So these are the three main issues that have virtually reordered the political spectrum”
he said, adding that it is "surprising" that former far-left parties that are pro-peace, anti-migration, pro-family and "anti-gender" can now be found with their agendas. As he said, the creation of their new European party family, the Patriots for Europe, can also be explained by this reorganization, which, according to him, is now slowly forming "a new majority" in European politics.
"You guys are in trouble"
Afterwards, Viktor Orbán was asked about what Europe might look like in 10-20 years. In response, the Prime Minister told his Austrian interlocutor:
You guys are in trouble if I may say so. Countries that admitted many migrants.
As he said, immigrant families in these countries have more children and face constant challenges in coexistence. In contrast, Hungary's own challenge is how to protect the borders and "how not to let" them in.
"So I think that the future of your society, societies influenced by migrants, will be different. It's already different now, but it will be even more so in ten years," he said, adding:
"So what we will probably see in the future will no longer be one Europe, but two separate societies within one continent".
Assassinations
Later, the assassinations of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and former US President Donald Trump were discussed.
Viktor Orbán said that after the attack on Fico, preparedness was increased in Hungary, new steps were taken to protect Hungarian politicians, but since then the preparedness has dropped back to the usual level. According to him, what happened is "not surprising" because the left constantly "creates hatred" against these actors, and it would be better if they returned to the "normal way of dialogue".
That would be better for everyone, especially me. If I may be a little selfish on this topic
Viktor Orbán said.
An army arrived at Hungary's border in 2015
The Prime Minister later also spoke about how, in his opinion, the gender issue should not be decided by Brussels, but by the member states within their own jurisdiction, because each state has a "different history and spiritual character".
After that, the migration wave of 2015 and the fact that Hungary built a border fence were also discussed. Viktor Orbán said that this was a completely new development.
We have never encountered this before. We were overrun by armies, we know what it's like when the Ottomans or the Russians come, but this was a completely new development. An unarmed army has arrived at the border of Hungary, what should we do with it?
- he said about what was the big question in 2015.
He then added: in the end, this issue was decided by the fact that Hungary and the Hungarian Defense Forces were obliged to protect not only the national border, but also the Schengen external border, and that is why they stopped the immigrants who were trying to go to Austria or Germany. He later said that "it was an invasion" and not a wave of refugees.
You know, it was an invasion. And we said that if this is an invasion, we cannot give up our country, they must be stopped
said Viktor Orbán. Then he also spoke about: he considers it "crazy and shameful" that Brussels later withdrew funds from Hungary due to migration, while the Hungarians protect the country in accordance with the provisions of the constitution, as well as Europe in accordance with the Schengen obligations.
All your hopes for war are in Donald Trump
Regarding the American presidential election, the Prime Minister said that there are only 5 days to wait. He added: he sees that Europe is unable to get the warring parties to conclude a ceasefire.
That's why we need someone else who can do that. The Chinese tried, they have their own peace plan with the Brazilians, but it didn't have enough influence to be effective. But now that in the Western Hemisphere, hopefully, Trump is back, he's going to act immediately on a ceasefire, and then we can reduce war spending to zero […] so I'm very confident that Donald Trump, the old-new president, will be able to achieve a ceasefire
Viktor Orbán said.
The prime minister was then asked about his previous peace mission and what he plans to do in the last two months of the Hungarian EU presidency.
As he said, none of the warring parties wanted to make peace this summer, so it is necessary to create an environment in international politics that can facilitate this, and he suggested this to the European Union as well. According to his claim, this proposal was rejected by the union.
The Chinese said it was fine. The European Union said no way. Because they want to continue the war and defeat Russia. This is the European position
- he said, and then added: even in the event of Donald Trump's victory, he expects that they will have a "complicated" two months ahead of them regarding the possible ceasefire.
"Hungary is the land of freedom"
At the very end of the interview, the interviewer also mentioned that AUF1 was subjected to "brutal attacks" because they do not broadcast "globalist propaganda". Stefan Magnet said that they were being "censored" in Austria and Germany, and because of this they had to flee to Hungary in a financial sense, because eight of their bank accounts were also closed (recently it was mentioned in the Hungarian press that the channel had opened an account at MBH Bank).
In this regard, Viktor Orbán said: 25 years ago, if you opened two newspapers with opposing worldviews - for example Frankfurter Allgemeine and Süddeutsche Zeitung - you would come across two different positions on the same issue. But that has stopped today, because all the papers write the same thing.
"It's not my job to criticize this, but now I see that the different opinions have simply disappeared, and on the bigger issues, the positions of journalists and newspapers are completely the same"
he said, then noted that he thought the globalists would try to wipe out anyone who expressed a dissenting opinion. He then brought up the fact that even a party with social support can be constantly monitored by the secret service in Germany today (by this Orbán could be referring to the AfD, whose monitoring was previously suspended, but the case is still under court proceedings - ed.).
OK, that's probably possible because of the German constitution. But in Hungary, the same could lead to a revolution
- he said, and then noted that, in his opinion, the issue of media freedom has "changed" in Western societies.
Finally, he said: "all things considered" in Hungary today, the proportion of liberal and conservative opinions appearing in the public is roughly 50-50.
So we still have a kind of competition in our understanding of world events and developments. Hungary is therefore the land of freedom
- he said, and then referred back to the AUF1 bank account case.
