The so-called "burka ban" will enter into force in Switzerland on January 1st, according to which it will be forbidden to wear a piece of clothing that completely covers the face in public, the Swiss government announced.

The proposal in this regard in 2021 has a close result

it was approved by a referendum, and the referendum was initiated by the same group that previously, in 2009, achieved a ban on the construction of new minarets.

The Swiss government has also announced the date the ban will come into effect and the fines for violating the law: violators can be fined up to 1,000 Swiss francs (HUF 437,000).

However, the ban allows several exceptions:

face coverings are still permitted in diplomatic and consular facilities, on airplanes, and in religious buildings and ceremonies. Face coverings will also be permitted for health, safety and weather reasons, as well as to preserve tradition.

The government added that covering the face is also allowed at art, entertainment and advertising events, and is also possible for protective measures related to freedom of assembly or expression, provided that the authorities have given permission for that event in advance and public order is not endangered.
