The left wing of the European Parliament has once again chosen party politics and hatred instead of professional competence, wrote the member of the European Parliament György Hölvényi on his Facebook page on Thursday in connection with the fact that, instead of immediate approval, the Hungarian Commissioner-designate Olivér Várhelyi is required to answer additional questions. The scandalous commissioner candidates were let through, and the Hungarian candidate was sent for a supplementary examination in Brussels. According to Csaba Dömötör, a member of the European Parliament (EP) of Fidesz, it is obvious that the European People's Party has made a pact with the left factions.
In his post, the Christian Democrat politician pointed out: Although Olivér Várhelyi gave high-quality and professionally flawless answers at his hearing on Wednesday evening, the left was not interested in this, and instead of immediate approval, they expect the Hungarian Commissioner-designate to answer further questions. This practice evokes dark times - said György Hölvényi.
He emphasized: all candidate commissioners must consider the governments of the member states as partners, comply with the basic treaty provisions, and respect national sovereignty. Olivér Várhelyi perfectly meets these conditions as well
he stated.
"Let's see!" - the government politician concluded his post.
Europe deserves more than this
The European People's Party has made a pact with the left-wing factions, instead of immediate approval, the Hungarian commissioner candidate Olivér Várhelyi will be required to answer additional questions, Csaba Dömötör, a member of the European Parliament (EP) of Fidesz, said on his Facebook page on Thursday.
The representative wrote: it is a serious circumstance and characteristic of their democratic attitude that the decision on this matter was made before the hearing of Olivér Várhelyi, thus making the commissioner's hearings part of the usual exercise of political pressure.
He added that Olivér Várhelyi answered the questions for three hours, demonstrated experience and clear expertise, it's a pity that the representatives who asked the questions were not interested in all of this.
"Europe deserves more than this. Hungary too. And so is democracy"
- said Csaba Dömötör.
