Last year, the Civil Solidarity Forum and the Egyenlő.hu trade union initiated the closure of commercial shops on December 24, one of Hungary's biggest Christian holidays, giving their workers a rest day at Christmas. At that time, several multinational supermarket chains joined the call.

However, last year's initiative seems to be becoming a practice, Lidl Hungary will not open on December 24 this time either. The company wants Christmas Eve to be intimate for the employees as well.

"As a responsible company, we consider it important that all nearly ten thousand of our employees can spend the holiday of love in peace, surrounded by their loved ones, so this year we have also decided to provide them with a rest day on December 24, which also means that all of our 210 stores will be closed on December 24 -26. between. At the same time, of course, we also kept in mind the interests of our customers, we are waiting for them with extended opening hours on December 23, until 10:00 p.m. across the country," said Zita Szlavikovics, president of Lidl Hungary's board of directors.
