Serbia will always be Hungary's ally, just as we know that Hungary will always be Serbia's ally - declared Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in a joint press statement with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán after Thursday's meeting of the Hungarian-Serbian Strategic Cooperation Council in Budapest.

The Serbian head of state greeted Viktor Orbán as his "dear friend", with whom, according to his statement, he had several opportunities to talk at length in the recent period, but they still had plenty of topics to discuss.

Aleksandar Vucic thanked the Hungarian Prime Minister for calling him the "engine" for the improvement of Hungarian-Serbian relations, however, he highlighted the role of István Pásztor and the Hungarian Association of Vojvodina, which he led for a long time, as well as the fact that the process was initiated by Viktor Orbán.

Today, the relationship of the Serbian people towards the Hungarian people has also changed in a very good direction, the Serbians often support the Hungarians at sporting events, he noted, adding:

"Mr Viktor Orbán is also much more popular in Serbia than I am".

According to his assessment, Hungarian-Serbian relations have become much deeper in recent years from a political and economic point of view, but also from the point of view of relations between people. In addition to the 173 joint agreements between the two countries, seven more have now been signed, he said.

He spoke about the plans for the further development of energy cooperation between the two states, the planned expansion of the Horgos-Röszke border crossing, as well as the strengthening of military cooperation, and also thanked Hungary for its support for Serbia's EU integration.

Serbia will always be a reliable partner in terms of energy

he declared.

Aleksandar Vucic also touched on the Belgrade-Budapest railway line, emphasizing that Serbian citizens are looking forward to its completion, as it will be possible to get to Budapest from the Serbian capital in 2 hours and 40 minutes "for coffee or Esterházy cake". At the same time, he asked the Hungarians to visit the extremely fast developing Belgrade.

He spoke about the Serbian highway developments, reminding that in this field his country was ahead of Romania, which has a much larger area and is also an EU member.

According to the report of the Serbian president, the situation in Europe and the war in Ukraine were also discussed at the meeting on Thursday.

He emphasized the importance of the fact that the two countries managed to stay out of the Russian-Ukrainian war. If there is no peace, there is no economy, no development, no progress in any social sphere, he said.
