Péter Szijjártó: it is in the national interest for the RMDSZ to be as strong as possible. Video.
The better results the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (RMDSZ) achieves in the elections, the better the cooperation between Hungary and Romania, the better the life situation of Hungarians in Romania, therefore it is in the national interest that the RMDSZ be as strong as possible - stated Péter Szijjártó on Friday in Csíkszereda, together with Kelemen Hunor, at the joint press conference with the state presidential candidate of the RMDSZ.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade pointed out that two important objectives of Hungarian foreign policy are to improve cooperation between Hungary and Romania and to improve the living conditions of Hungarians in Transylvania and Székelyföld, and according to his experience, both Transylvanian objectives are closely related to the strength of the RMDSZ.
He assessed that there is good hope that the RMDSZ will achieve the same excellent results in the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections as in the EP and municipal elections in June.
If the Hungarian representation in Bucharest will be strong, it will not be possible to make decisions on matters important to the Hungarian people without taking the Hungarians' points of view into account.
stated Péter Szijjártó.
He said: at their meeting in Csikszereda, they reviewed the most important tasks for the next period with Hunor Kelemen.
Among the three most important tasks, he listed the realization of Romania's full Schengen accession, the expansion of the number of border crossing points and the Transylvanian economic development program.
He pointed out: the national interests of Romanians and Hungarians in terms of Schengen accession are completely coincident, therefore - as in the previous four months - the Hungarian EU presidency will "move every stone" in the remaining time in order for Romania to enter the Schengen zone. .
"It is in our interest that the lives of the communities living on both sides of the border can be connected by the closest possible ties"
Péter Szijjártó pointed out. Hungary wants to put into practice as soon as possible the series of agreements that will open up five new border crossings on the Hungarian-Romanian border.
"We are preparing two new highway connections together. In Hungary, this means the M49 and 44 motorways or expressways. We are preparing the reconstruction of a bridge at Magyarcsanád and the construction of a road crossing at Kübekháza. Earlier, I signed the agreement with your minister of transport on the preparation of the Szeged - Timișoara railway line"
- explained the minister of foreign trade and foreign affairs.
In connection with the third main task, the continuation of the economic development program, he explained: so far six thousand businesses have received support, HUF 170 billion in investments have been made, and the Hungarian government has increased the budget of the latest call for tenders involving four counties from HUF 10 to HUF 25 billion in order to can meet extraordinary needs.
"We are ready to make our cooperation with Romania even closer, and we will be able to implement the most effective and closest possible cooperation with the new Romanian government, which will be formed with the hoped-for participation of RMDSZ"
said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Kelemen Hunor emphasized at the press conference: the RMDSZ can help the security, prosperity and survival of the Hungarian community living in Romania if it has parliamentary and, if possible, governmental means, and for this it needs the support of the Hungarians in Transylvania.
He said: for example, in order for the parliament to reject the failed public administration reorganization law initiative of the opposition Save Romania Association (USR), the RMDSZ needs partners, for which it must be present in the parliament, preferably in the government majority.
"Regarding language rights, native language rights that can be used in education and public administration must be similarly consolidated and applied in the judiciary, these are the first steps. A governmental role provides an opportunity for this"
- explained Kelemen Hunor.
The president of the RMDSZ expressed his hope that the association's candidates will receive the support of the Hungarian people on November 24 and December 1, just as they did during the European Parliament and local authority elections on June 9.
