The US ambassador spoke publicly at an event on Tuesday that he will end his ambassadorship in mid-January. This was also reported in the American embassy's newsletter on Wednesday.

The mandate of the United States ambassador to Budapest, David Pressman, who gave a speech at the George C. Marshall Center's alumni event at the German ambassador's residence on Tuesday afternoon, will expire in mid-January.

This is not surprising: Pressman was a political appointee. According to tradition, before the inauguration of the new president, the American ambassadors submit their resignations, and until the arrival of the new ambassador, the embassies' second-in-command, the charge d'affaires, lead the American foreign missions, Origó wrote. Pressman began his work in Hungary on September 14, 2022, after the US Senate voted for his appointment following the nomination of US President Joe Biden.

the Hungarian Conservative, after Donald Trump's landslide victory, three possible candidates could be the successor to Biden's ambassador, who will be appointed by Trump: Nancy Brinker, David Cornstein and Bryan Leib. Two of them were previously American ambassadors to Hungary.
