This new approach can significantly reduce the development of resistance and improve the life expectancy of patients.
The latest results achieved in cancer research were also presented at the meeting of the National Oncology Institute (OOI) and the Natural Science Research Center (TTK) at the HUN-REN Natural Science Research Center in Budapest, the OOI informed the Hungarian Nation . A targeted therapy has been developed for the treatment of melanoma, which can be used in fifty percent of patients and shows significant effectiveness.
At the same time, resistance to the drug can develop, which limits the long-term effectiveness. By examining the functioning of the surviving cells, however, they found a new protein that can be the basis of combined therapy.
This new approach can significantly reduce the development of resistance and improve the life expectancy of patients.
Other research at OOI focuses on the detection and prevention of hereditary tumors and the development of new, targeted drugs that attack cancer cells more effectively while sparing healthy ones. In recent years, thanks to the development of diagnostic and treatment methods, a significant improvement has been achieved in the survival chances of cancer patients.
