Scandals can be decisive primarily because of Péter Magyar's personality traits - pointed out the head of the Nézőpont Institute.
The scandals caused by the audio recordings further worsen Péter Magyar's situation. It will not unsettle existing voters, but drive away voters who are still undecided, which is essential for Fidesz to catch up - Ágoston Sámuel Mráz, head of the Nézőpont Institute, pointed out to ATV.
As is known, in a leaked audio recording, Péter Magyar addressed journalists with unsolicited words, called the media scumbags, and said of Hír TVs: he would push them into the Danube.
With this, he evoked the darkest historical times. And we also learned from an audio recording that he threatened the lady helping him in an aggressive, obscene manner in the children's home he visited on Wednesday, the first stop of his tour of the country.
According to the head of the Nézőpont Institute, Péter Magyar's core voters, who already stand by him - roughly a third of those who say they will participate in the election for sure - are unlikely to break with him because of the recordings, the Teflon effect may be working in their circle.
However, Péter Márki-Zay also had this many voters, and it is clear: with this many voters, the election cannot be won against Fidesz
he pointed out.
According to Sámuel Ágoston Mráz, the scandals surrounding the audio recordings can be decisive primarily because of the personality traits of Péter Magyar known to the public.
The sentences expected to be heard many times over the next year and a half may decide whether the voters trust Péter Magyar. For now, there is no visible initiative from the Tisza Party that could make the party president forget the unpleasant scandal, he said.
The expert said that there is an almost continuous campaign atmosphere in Hungary. "Péter Magyar campaigned throughout August, for example. The autumn national consultation and related events can be considered almost traditional, what counts as new is that the left is also trying to do the same," he added.
Mráz Ágoston Sámuel pointed out: Péter Magyar currently needs continuous campaigning in order to divert attention from the audio recordings full of unacceptable statements.
As he said, "more gunpowder" is only one aspect, credibility, community building or the ability to govern are at least as important.
"However, which campaign is more successful can only be decided afterwards, depending on the election results," he opined. According to him, however, it is a fact that Péter Magyar has been forced to defend himself in recent weeks, the success of the flood defense is not linked to his name, the demonstration in front of and against the public media was a failure, and October 23rd had no momentum either.
