The RMDSZ will discuss the support of one of the candidates who reach the final round only after the parliamentary competition.
As expected, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu won the first round of the Romanian presidential election, receiving 25 percent of the vote according to exit poll data. At the same time, the fight for the second place leading to the final round is extremely close, where Elena Lasconi, Călin Georgescu (independent), George Simion, and even Nicolae Ciucă can reach it based on the results of the public opinion polls.
The leading politicians of the RMDSZ, led by Kelemen Hunor, reacted with undisguised satisfaction to the exit poll results of the first round of the presidential election after the polls closed.
The association set up its results waiting room in a central pub in Cluj, where the president of the association appeared in front of journalists in the company of ten other politicians - members of parliament and EP, council presidents, mayors.
After thanking all those who voted for him on Sunday, Kelemen Hunor said: Sunday's voting was only about today, the second round for the RMDSZ will take place in a week, at the December 1st parliamentary election; he called the second decisive battle of the presidential election on December 8 the third round.
The federal president expressed his conviction that, following the official vote counting, his 4 percent support shown by the exit poll results will rise above 5 percent, just like in the case of the European Parliament elections in June.
"We will continue the work, the campaign will start again from tomorrow. Our goal is to have a strong faction in the Bucharest parliament, and to be able to prevent bad decisions and prevent the Hungarian community in Romania from becoming politically vulnerable," Kelemen Hunor stated.
He added that many people heard the common sense program he represented during the campaign period,
at the same time, he expressed his hope that the next head of state of Romania, his future government and the newly formed parliament will be able to give good answers to the questions formulated in the program of the RMDSZ presidential candidate.
Kelemen Hunor said: in his opinion, the number of votes cast for him will be over 450,000, and he is even confident that it will be more than that, and that it will be closer to 500 than 400,000, which would mean that they were able to add a hundred thousand compared to the presidential election five years ago .
They also asked the president of the RMDSZ whether he would sit down to negotiate with the two candidates who will make it to the second round of the presidential election, if they ask for the support of the association - and the Hungarians in Romania.
Kelemen Hunor said that such a thing will not be discussed until the parliamentary elections on the first of December, until then it is necessary to mobilize for the legislative contest.
"December 2 is the day when we will be able to talk about the second round. We will talk to whoever contacts us, and he will tell us about his intentions and find out about our intentions as well. It is important that we wait for the final result of the first round, because based on the forecasts, the standings are very close, the votes of the diaspora are not included in this," replied Kelemen Hunor.
