Throughout the history of the Baltics, it has proven to be a strategically very important area. The Russians, Germans, Swedes, Danes, and Poles also fought for it almost continuously. In fact, it is a miracle that the native Estonian, Latvian, Livonian and Lithuanian ethnic groups have survived. However, the region is still characterized by serious tensions today, which Mike Calamus, the president of Konservatiivne Eesti ("Conservative Estonia") and the European Freedom Fund INC, explained in the introduction to the panel discussion "External and internal attacks on national identity today" at the 5th EuCET conference .
