While the first round of the Romanian presidential election brought chaos and uncertainty, the country is preparing for parliamentary elections today, December 1.
The first round of the presidential election caused waves not only because of the unexpected results, but also because these results could rearrange Romania's domestic political relations. The result of the head of state election caught many by surprise: the winner of the first round was a little-known politician, Calin Georgescu - who was proposed as prime minister years ago by the opposition, system-critical and anti-Hungarian Union for the Unification of Romanians - the second place was also a surprise: Elena Lasconi, from the opposition, progressive Mentsét He is the candidate for the head of state of the Association of Romania.
Political uncertainty is increasing
While there is complete uncertainty around the first round of last Sunday's presidential election, voters will decide on the composition of the parliament on December 1.
Everyone was caught up in the heat regarding the Romanian presidential election and the abuses surrounding it, but at the moment the most important thing for the Hungarian community would be for everyone to focus on the parliamentary elections
Zsolt Pászkán, an expert at the Hungarian Foreign Affairs Institute, told Magyar Nemzet
The expert said that in the heightened mood, it can be expected that the participation rate will be higher among the Romanians, therefore the participation of a large number of the Hungarian population in Sunday's voting would be extremely important.
In addition, it also emerges, he added, that the balance of power around strongly anti-Hungarian and less anti-Hungarian circles can be very balanced.
There is such chaos in Romania that the world has never seen before
All Hungarians are needed
- It would be extremely important for a stronger Hungarian faction to appear in the subsequent negotiations and for the Hungarian list to represent the Hungarian interest more effectively - emphasized Zsolt Pászkán, reminding:
The name of the RMDSZ is on the ballot, but this list also includes the Transylvanian Hungarian Association and the Hungarian Civic Association.
The anti-Hungarians have become stronger, their support is more than 37 percent, and they will probably reach 40 percent in the parliament. We have to protect the community, but this requires the Hungarian people to put their representatives in a position so that we can act against the anti-Hungarians. If we are not there, if we are weakened, it will be impossible to defend ourselves and protect the Hungarian community
- said Kelemen Hunor, the president of the Hungarian Democratic Union in Romania, in an interview with the Hungarian Nation .
Georgescu is the dark horse
The expert also said that it is worth considering that while Elena Lasconi was an active politician in the previous years, Calin Georgescu was not in sight. However, it is very difficult to say anything about him based on his own videos and TikTok posts.
Lasconi has missteps, for example, in relation to the proposals for territorial reorganization, which his party submitted during the campaign and which are seriously dangerous for the Hungarian community
he pointed out.
According to the expert, it can be said that Lasconi is more anti-Hungarian, but in the case of Calin Georgescu, it is not known what he thinks about the Hungarians. He did not comment either negatively or positively on this matter, but his personality is not important, since he does not even have a party.
He is a battering ram, behind whom are crowded George Simion, Dan Tanasa and all those dark figures who have made the lives of Transylvanian Hungarians miserable in recent years, from the Úz Valley to painted Hungarian-language local name plates and fan insults
– summed up the expert of the Hungarian Institute of Foreign Affairs.
