It crossed the five percent parliamentary threshold, thus RMDSZ entered the parliament.

At the end of a very difficult campaign in the parliamentary elections in Romania, the Hungarian community in Transylvania proved, with a high turnout, that it is strong, in solidarity, and takes responsibility for itself and for the next years and decades of the country, said Kelemen Hunor, the president of the Romanian Hungarian Democratic Association (RMDSZ) on Sunday evening in Cluj.

The president of the federation thanked the Hungarian voters in Transylvania at the event awaiting the results of the RMDSZ for "persisting under all circumstances, even in the darkest times" for the interest protection organization.

He announced: he does not wish to comment on the exit poll results, which measure the association at five percent,

according to the RMDSZ's calculations, it expects a result of 5.5-5.7 percent, 540-550 thousand votes, with ten million participants.

Kelemen Hunor pointed out: on Sunday, the age group that "moved" the most was those that have memories of the years before 1990 and '89 and "know what anti-Hungarianism is". He believed that the Hungarian voters in Transylvania "saw the danger", which through the advance of extremist parties, it is stalking the Transylvanian Hungarian community, which is why they went to the polls in such large numbers.

He also thanked the Romanian Hungarians living abroad, who, according to him, participated in the parliamentary elections in greater numbers than in the first round of the presidential election last Sunday, and took responsibility for their homeland. He also thanked those who had not voted for years and did so now.

He emphasized: the fact that the participation rate was the highest in Hargita county and that the Hungarian-inhabited counties finished in the forefront indicates the will of the Transylvanian Hungarian communities to do their best in difficult times.

"We are not the same, but we belong together, and that was important for everyone today," underlined the president of the RMDSZ.

He added: it was also important that they reach every small community where the Hungarian identity is preserved, that is how the association was able to achieve this result in a very difficult period.

He reminded: the voters punished the mainstream parties in the first round of the presidential election last Sunday.

"And now, based on the exit poll results, citizens looking for balance want us to proceed on this path - after the corrections have been made, of course - which means progress and the hope of a better life," said Kelemen Hunor.

He announced that he had convened the RMDSZ's decision-making forum, the Federal Standing Council (SZÁT), for Monday, and the final results are expected to be known by then. He thanked the campaign staffs, county organizations, and volunteers for their work, as well as the participation of church leaders, professional organizations, and artists in the mobilization, which, according to him, also contributed to high participation.

He attributes this primarily to the fact that Transylvanian Hungarians have recognized the danger posed by over 30 percent support for anti-Hungarian forces, and that participation in the parliamentary elections has serious stakes for the future of the community and the country, he said in response to a journalist's question.
