The whole process must be repeated while the second round of voting is already in full swing in the diaspora.

Romania's Constitutional Court (CCR) on Friday annulled the results of the first round of the presidential election held on November 24 and ordered the entire electoral process to start over after the Supreme Security Council (CSAT) found that

the result of the election was influenced by foreign interference threatening national security, the board said.

In its unappealable decision, the Constitutional Court refers to the constitutional provision according to which it "supervises compliance with the procedure related to the election of the President of Romania and verifies the results of the voting".

In its unanimously adopted decision, the Constitutional Court entrusted the Romanian government with developing the schedule for repeating the presidential election.

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, who left office on December 21, on Wednesday declassified the secret service and interior ministry reports on the basis of which the CSAT found last week that

"Romania has become the target of hostile cyber activity by state and non-state actors, especially Russia".

The decision of the Constitutional Court was made in circumstances where the voting in the second round had already started on Friday morning local time in the foreign voting districts. By the time the decision was announced, more than 37,000 people had gone to the polls, and more than 3,000 postal votes had already been received, the Krónika.ro portal points out. In addition, even after the decision of the robed board, the voting did not stop in the voting circles established in the diaspora, by 4 p.m. the number of voters had already exceeded 40,000.

In the meantime, the mandate of President Klaus Iohannis expires on December 20, and it is questionable what the fate of the presidency will be. According to some assumptions, the mandate of Iohannis can be extended by law, according to other assumptions, the holder of the second most important state office, that is, the president of the Senate, will be the acting head of state.
