For now, there is a lot of confusion in the Middle Eastern country, where an Islamist establishment similar to the Taliban regime could emerge.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has left Damascus for an unknown location, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH) reported on Sunday, citing Syrian army officers.
Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali announced on Sunday morning that he is ready to support the maintenance of the government and is ready to cooperate with any leadership chosen by the Syrian people, as well as with the opposition, after the head of state left the capital, whose territory was invaded by the rebels.
At the same time, the Prime Minister emphasized that he is ready to immediately hand over power to "an elected leadership". He urged the population to cooperate in light of the developments and called on them to refrain from damaging public property.
As he said, Syria can become a "normal state" with friendly relations with its neighbors. Jalali also stated that he was not interested in political office or other privileges.
We believe that Syria belongs to the Syrians, he added.

Jaláli was formerly the Minister of Telecommunications, and was appointed Prime Minister in September. Among other things, Jalali is subject to European Union sanctions imposed on him due to the violent suppression of the Syrian people.
Prior to this, the Syrian army announced early Sunday morning that it will continue military operations against terrorist groups in the provinces of Hama, Homs and Deraa, where the jihadist group Hajat Tahrir al-Sam (HTS) and its allied organizations have launched a lightning offensive in recent days.
At the same time, shortly before, the British Reuters and the German news agency dpa learned from military sources that the High Command of the Syrian Army informed the officers that Assad's 24-year rule was over.
Assad's 24-year rule was toppled by a coalition of largely radical Islamist groups, with the United States listing HTS, a jihadist group linked to al-Qaeda, as a terrorist organization.
The leader of HTS, Abu Mohammed al-Golani, is trying to show the world a milder version of radical Islamism.
However, according to experts, HTS aims to impose a totalitarian Islamist regime on the population. Phillip Smyth, a staff member of the Atlantic Council, believes that an arrangement similar to the Taliban regime is likely.
According to eyewitness accounts, thousands gathered in the main square of Damascus on Sunday, waving flags and chanting "freedom". According to the recordings published on social media, people singing in the Syrian capital climbed onto armored vehicles, several danced and asked for God's blessings on Syria. In neighboring Turkey, home to more than three million Syrian refugees, Syrians could also be seen celebrating in footage taken overnight. Several people lit fireworks.
Meanwhile, rebel groups announced on social media the overthrow of President Assad's government and the "liberation" of Damascus.
"Assad the tyrant has fled," the insurgents said in a statement. "This is the moment that refugees and prisoners have been waiting for, the moment of homecoming and freedom after decades of oppression and suffering," they said. Addressing the millions of Syrian civil war refugees living around the world, they added their message: "a free Syria is waiting for you."

The insurgents also announced the release of prisoners from the notorious Sednaya military prison on the border of Damascus.
Ahmed al-Sharáa, one of the leaders of the insurgents, said that residents were forbidden to go near the public buildings, adding that the institutions were under the supervision of "the former prime minister" until the official handover.
Local time, the White House said on Saturday that US President Joe Biden and his team are monitoring the extraordinary events in Syria and are in contact with regional partners.

Hadi al-Bahra, the leader of one of the main Syrian opposition groups, told al-Jazeera Mubasir news television that the rebels will meet with representatives of Arab and European countries and the United Nations to discuss the future of Syria.
